Given the proximity of two most famous landmarks, I knew I had to secure a room with a stunning view while visiting Sydney. While there are many hotels in the city that offer great rooms with various angles and views, I ultimately chose the Shangri-La. This hotel offered the perfect vantage point to capture both the breathtaking Sydney Opera House and the iconic Harbour Bridge in one picture-perfect view.

Shangri-La Sydney is situated in the heart of the city’s central business district, nestled between the famous Sydney Opera House and the iconic Harbour Bridge. This luxurious hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to some of Sydney’s top attractions, including The Rocks, Circular Quay, and the Royal Botanic Gardens.

There’s a tram stop about 5 min walk from the hotel that can take you to the city centre but also you can walk do the Circular Quay and take one of a few ferries to places like Darling Harbour or Luna Park

Prior to booking my stay at the hotel, I had a general idea of what type of view to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by the ample size and spaciousness of the rooms. The stylish decor and well-appointed furnishings were immediately apparent, complemented by the convenience of a flat-screen TV and generous storage space. The highlight of the room, however, (minus the view obviously ) was the oversized marble bathroom which featured both a shower and a luxurious bath, providing the perfect space to relax and unwind.

First up is Altitude, the hotel’s signature restaurant located on level 36. Here, you can enjoy contemporary Australian cuisine while taking in stunning views of the city skyline and harbour. The menu changes regularly to showcase the best local produce, and the wine list features an impressive selection of Australian and international wines.

You can also get breakfast which was one of the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had.

If you’re in the mood for something sweet, make sure to visit the Lobby Lounge on level 1. This elegant space is the perfect spot for a mid-afternoon coffee or tea, and the patisserie selection is not to be missed. Treat yourself to a slice of cake or a freshly-baked pastry while taking in the lobby’s stunning architecture and artwork.

Finally, for those who prefer a drink with a view, head to Blu Bar on 36. Located on the same level as Altitude, this bar boasts some of the best views in the city. Sip on a cocktail or a glass of wine while watching the sun set over the harbour – it’s the perfect way to end a day of exploring Sydney.

Spa and Health Club

The Shangri-La Sydney offers a wonderful spa where guests can unwind with various massages and treatments. It’s perfect for those looking to relax and rejuvenate. For those seeking more active pursuits, the hotel’s health club is fully equipped. It features a state-of-the-art gym, a comfortable indoor swimming pool, an infrared sauna for deep relaxation, a warm whirlpool bath, and a sun deck to enjoy some quiet time.

My stay at Shangri-La Sydney wasn’t just about finding a place to rest my head; it was about discovering a frame through which to view one of the world’s most exhilarating cities. It’s a hotel that doesn’t just offer a bed, but a window to the essence of Sydney. Whether I was savouring the flavours of its kitchens, soaking in the marbled grandeur of my bathroom, or simply gazing out at the cityscape, Shangri-La Sydney proved to be more than a hotel—it was a pivotal chapter in my Sydney story.
