My holiday in America has come and gone but I am already looking forward to returning to Myrtle Beach next year. So much so, I would like to introduce you to a small city in South Carolina, where I spent quite a lot of time. Heres the top 10 reasons why you should book your ticket to Myrtle Beach right now.

1. Beaches, beaches and More Beaches!

Let’s start with the obvious: Myrtle Beach is an ocean city and has over 60+ miles of long beaches.  While most of the hotels are located right next to the beach it is important to note the differences between North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach. Myrtle Beach is lined with restaurants and beach bars, whereas North Myrtle Beach is more of a residential area, so  beach bars and restaurants are hard to find in the sand dunes.

2. Golf and Mini Golf

Myrtle Beach is actually known as the world capital of golf, and I am not just talking about about 4 or 5 courses. It is literally full of all kinds of crazy golf  courses (mini-golf) providing fun for the whole family. While some of the mini-golf courses are naturally tacky some of them are absolutely unreal. The amount of detail and effort that goes in to building these mini-golf courses is incredible. You can play with dragons, Captain Hook, sharks, climb mountains, hike through the Aztec ruins or pretend you’re playing on a small island in Hawaii.

3. It’s affordable

As Myrtle Beach is located on the East Coast and relies primarily on tourism and golf for it’s economy, it is surprisingly cheap. You can always find great deals around here so make sure you grab one of those monster coupon books from the local grocery shop to get discounts for pretty much all the major places around Myrtle Beach.

4. People

Well it is definitely true what they say about Southern Hospitality. You can feel it all around Myrtle Beach. While most of the people who live within the cities or tourist locations were not born and raised in South Carolina, they all tend to be happy, friendly and really hospitable. I suppose it is the beautiful weather, the long sandy beaches, and the cheap prices that put a welcoming smile on everyone’s face.

5). Great Restaurants

Myrtle Beach attracts a lot of visitors, especially during the Summer months, so you can expect to find just about any kind of restaurant here to tickle your fancy. As is true for any seasonal destination, they are jam-packed during the busy summer months, but as the crowds die down, so does the quality of some restaurants.  I frequently go to:

Art Burger – Located right near the beach. Be sure to try their nitrogen frozen cocktails!

The Wicked Tuna –  Located at Murrells Inlet

Joe’s Crab Shack – Located at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach and Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach.

Wild Wings Cafe – Located at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach.

Villa Romana – Located at Myrtle Beach

Wahoo’s Fish House – Located at Murrells Inlet

Of course theres no place like Kirk’s Ice Cream after or before any of the above.

6). Shopping

Myrtle Beach is littered with Waves, Beaches and other tacky stores where you can get everything for under $5. These shops are great for little trinkets or generic souvenirs to take back home. You can also find two Tanger Outlets (one in Myrtle Beach, one in North Myrtle Beach) if you’re looking to spend some time off from the beach and work your wallet instead!

7. Activities

Myrtle Beach is full of attractions, amusement parks and things for the whole family to enjoy. You can go to the SkyWheel, the impressive ferris wheel located right on the beach. The Broadway at the Beach outdoor shopping center built on top of a pond is home to the Family Kingdom Amusement Park, Boat Tours and Ripley’s Aquarium, Ripley’s Believe it or Not, WonderWorks, Escape Games, Pirate Cruise, Helicopter Adventure, Hollywood Wax Museum, Speedway, Myrtle Waves Water Park and many other attractions ensure you will never run out of things to do on your holiday.

8. Watersports

Obviously, you cannot visit Myrlte Beach without trying the amazing world of watersports on offer here. Take your pick! There’s plenty to do here:  Jetskis, Pontoon Boat Rentals, Dolphin Cruises, Pirate Adventures (yes, you go out on a pirate ship!), Scuba Express, Banana Boat rides, Kayaking, Parasailing, Crazy Jet Boat rides – What’s it going to be for you?

9. Live Shows

For those of you who are into theater, plays and concerts, you’ll be happy to know that Myrtle Beach offers a fair share of attractions: The House of Blues (concerts and gospel brunch) , GTS Theater (Hypnosis shows & musicals) , Alabama Theatre, Legends in Concert (musical tribute artists) , The Carolina Opry (live musical show) , The Palace Theatre (home of the Jersey Night show and magic shows)  Pirates Voyage (dinner theater) and of course Medieval Times, for those of you who like to eat with your hands, while watching a jousting spectacle.

10. Nightlife

The clubs in Myrtle Beach may not be as trendy as those found in NYC, LA, Vegas, or Europe but you’ll find a unique blend of nightlife here that will keep you entertained for your entire stay. Broadway at the Beach used to have a row of small/connected night clubs called Celebrity Square, but unfortunately it has been closed. There are a lot of smaller night clubs but most of the drinking/dancing occurs at the many bars and restaurants located around the beach. If you are up for a brief Uber ride you can check out Murrells Inlet (which is also known as the sea food capital of the world). If you happen to stumble across Bubba’s Love Shack in Murrell’s Inlet you found the right place. This is a great place to grab some cocktails and dance the night away. You can then continue to walk down the docks to the various other bars and restaurants. Murrell’s Inlet can get very busy during the high season, but that doesn’t stop  the locals  from coming here for  a good night out on the town.

  1. What am amazingly gorgeous website and Myrtle beach post! These photos are just so gorgeous. My husband’s parents go to Myrtle every year and are there right now it just so happens!

  2. I have never been to Myrtle Beach. I grew up on Seaside Hts, NJ, and it looks a lot like it did there. Now that I live down in GA, I may need to take my kids up to Myrtle Beach for a visit. Looks like plenty of fun for the whole family.

  3. I would definitely be hitting up all the seafood places as I used to live in Maine and Florida. I miss fresh off the ocean sea food especially crab cakes. You just can’t get good ones here in Phoenix.

  4. We visited Myrtle Beach last August. We had a great time. The weather was perfect and we got out of there before all the rains hit. I think Myrtle Beach is a great family destination.

  5. Queen Crab Servant! Haha!!! I love eating at Joe’s, such a good time. I have not been to Myrtle Beach, but there is definitely something to be said for lounging, strolling up and down the beach, and poking around the shops before having a nice daiquiri and fish sandwich. YUM. It must be nice for the people who live there as well, with a section of the beach that is essentially meant for them. It’s a nice happy medium for everyone involved!

  6. The beach! I have always wanted to do a Myrtle Beach vacation for the golf… but those pictures of the beach are very alluring!

Best time of the year to come? (other than Summer July and August?)

  7. One of my main reasons to visit Myrtle Beach would be enjoying the seaview and of course, the watersport. I love wandering around beaches at night, it makes me calmer, and of course there’s the idea that it’s so nice to meet different people, and be able to hear their stories! Thanks for sharing!
