Still can’t believe what happened, my thoughts are with those who lost their lives and the city of Berlin. To look on the positive side Germany turns into a winter wonder land during the Christmas season.

Visiting Christmas markets in Berlin is something you must see when you visit the German capital in December. Every year there’s about 60 of them and each one is different.  I used to live in Berlin and even though I visited most of them a few times already I couldn’t just not to go when I was stopping in town for a weekend before I went home for Christmas.

  1. Alexanderplatz Christmas Market

The first Christmas market I saw was located on the famous Alexanderplatz. This one is spread out with food, hot wine, beer and a big icerink in the main square. There is another one behind the behind big shopping center Alexa where you can find all of the crazy rides, fun houses, bumper cars and many other fun attractions.

  1. Winterwelt am Potsdamer Platz

The location is great, while a bit small you can find the giant rodelbahn here, which is big slide. It cost 1.50EUR. I like this market as its not as crowded as the other ones and they also play Christmas music very loud so together with the smell of food you can really feel the Christmas atmosphere.

  1. Weihnachtszauber at the Gendarmenmarkt

First information you need to know is that it’s the only Christmas market where you need to pay. But luckily it only costs 1EUR and the line goes very quickly. Its surrounded by Franzosischer Dom, Opera, and Deutscher Dom. Here you can get unique handmade products, see live shows on the small stage or have a cup of hot wine. It’s a very traditional market, called by some people the best Christmas market in Berlin.

  1. Berliner Weihnachtszeit at Roten Rathaus

Its located not so far from Alexanderplatz and has great view for the TV tower. You can take a ride on the massive Ferris wheel or take a spin skating on the large ice rink in the middle. It’s one of the most popular and oldest Christmas markets in Berlin.

Of course there is still another 56 Christmas markets that I haven’t visited this time but they are all are amazing and unique so if you haven’t seen them yet, you should try and plan a short trip to Berlin next year!
